Standard Pool Cabanas: Pre-Designed Models Built in Our Shop
Proven cedar cabana designs, built in our Aurora shop and installed by our crew, with your choice of siding, roof, windows, doors and interior.
The short answer
Standard pool cabanas are pre-designed cabana models that Cedar Wood Structures builds in our shop in Aurora, Ontario and installs in backyards across Toronto, York Region and the GTA. You pick a model, then choose the foundation, siding, roof, windows, doors and interior options. They suit storage, a change room or a poolside bar.

What is a standard pool cabana?
A standard pool cabana is one of our pre-designed cabana models. The layout, framing and roof are already worked out from plans we have built before, so there is less design time. The parts are built in our shop in Aurora, then brought to your yard and installed by our crew.
You still choose how it looks and works. Each model can be set up for simple storage, a change room, or a bar and entertaining space, with your choice of foundation, siding, roof, windows, doors and interior details.
People also call this a prefab pool cabana or a prefabricated pool house. The difference with ours is that you do not assemble a kit yourself. We build the parts and we put them up.

Standard vs custom pool cabanas
Both are built the same way, in cedar, in our shop. The difference is where the design starts. If you need a size, shape or layout that is not in our plans, or a washroom, our custom pool cabanas are designed from scratch for your yard.
| Standard cabana | Custom cabana | |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Pre-designed model from proven plans | Designed from scratch for your yard |
| Layout | Set footprint, with partition walls and options | Any size, shape and room layout |
| Finishes | Choice of siding, roof, windows, doors and interior | Any finish, including stone and custom millwork |
| Services | Lighting and a bar can be added | Washroom, kitchen, plumbing and gas planned in |
| Design time | Shorter, the plans already exist | Longer, each design is new |
| Best for | Storage, a change room or a bar by the pool | A pool house or a cabana that fits an unusual site |

Options for standard pool cabanas
These are the options we offer on our standard models. Mix them to suit your pool area and your house.

Knotty cedar, pine or Canexel siding
Knotty cedar gives a classic natural look, pine gives a smoother, cleaner finish, and Canexel is a low-maintenance siding that looks like wood.

Flat, gable or hip roof
A flat roof looks clean and modern; gable and hip roofs look more traditional. Finish with asphalt shingles or red cedar shakes.

Windows and doors
From traditional wood frames to larger glass panels, chosen to let light in while keeping privacy and security.

Shelves, shutters and flower boxes
Decorative details that add character, plus practical storage and some extra shade.

Pitched roof veranda
A covered porch on the front of the cabana gives you a shaded place to sit out of the sun and rain.

Custom bars
From a simple countertop to a bar with a sink and fridge, sized for how you entertain.
- Interior finishes and treatments. Natural wood stains or painted surfaces, so the inside looks as finished as the outside.
- Built-in units and storage benches. Built-in cabinets and benches with storage underneath keep towels and pool toys tidy.
- Partition walls. Divide the inside into a change room, a storage room and a lounge.
- Stucco siding. A smoother, more modern look that adds a layer of protection against the weather. See our notes on stucco finish for a cabana.
- Wood floor or concrete slab. A wood floor suits storage and change rooms; a slab suits heavier use and bar equipment.

Permits for standard cabanas
In Toronto, accessory buildings such as pool houses and cabanas need a building permit if they are larger than 10 m² (107 sq ft), and any cabana with plumbing or attached to the house needs one at any size. Other GTA and York Region towns have their own zoning by-laws, so check with your town or ask us.
Zoning rules on setbacks, height and lot coverage apply even when you do not need a permit, so we check them before you order. When a permit is needed, we prepare the plans and permit drawings.

Frequently asked questions
What is a standard pool cabana?
A standard pool cabana is a pre-designed cabana model built from plans that have already been worked out. We build the parts in our shop in Aurora and install them in your yard. You choose the siding, roof, windows, doors and interior options.
Can I customize a standard pool cabana?
Yes, within the model. You can choose the foundation, siding, roof style and roofing, windows and doors, partition walls, built-ins and a bar. If you need a different size or shape, or a washroom, a custom cabana is the better fit.
Do you sell prefab pool houses or pool cabana kits in Ontario?
Our standard cabanas are prefabricated in our shop, but we install them ourselves rather than shipping a kit for you to assemble. That way the foundation, framing and trim are done by the people who built the parts.
How is a standard pool cabana delivered and installed?
We build the walls, roof parts and trim in our shop in Aurora. The foundation is prepared in your yard, then our crew brings the parts in and installs the cabana. The timing depends on the model, the options and the permit, and we confirm it with your quote.
Do I need a permit for a standard pool cabana?
In Toronto, a cabana over 10 m² (107 sq ft) needs a building permit, and so does any cabana with plumbing. Zoning rules on setbacks and height apply either way. Other towns have their own by-laws, so check with your town or ask us.
Should I choose a standard or custom pool cabana?
Choose standard if one of our models fits your space and you want a cabana for storage, changing or a bar. Choose custom if you need a specific size, a washroom or kitchen, or finishes like stone and stucco throughout.
